Have questions about how you can utilize the Army of Women to advance your breast cancer research?
The Love/Avon Partnership
The Love/Avon Army of Women is driven by two key partnerships that will accelerate research and prevent breast cancer: the partnership between Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and the Avon Foundation for Women, and the partnership between scientists and women.
Access Requirements
Access to the Love/Avon Army of Women is provided solely to investigators who have a funded study (either peer reviewed or privately funded). There are four steps all researchers must follow to obtain permission to access the Army of Women:
If you are a researcher seeking funding for your research project, or are in the process of submitting grants and are interested in utilizing the Army of Women as part of your research plan, please register. Your Army of Women account will allow you to track your Army of Women requests.
If you don’t have funding for your research study, you are required to submit your scientific abstract, inclusion/exclusion criteria, biological sample needs, and the number of volunteers your research project requires. Army of Women staff will conduct a preliminary review to determine whether your request fits within the Army of Women framework. If so, we will provide you with a letter of support and budget for utilization of the Army of Women and Centers (based on the price sheet) for use in your grant proposals. If the research project is subsequently peer reviewed and funded, it will then be reviewed by the Love/Avon Army of Women Scientific Advisory Committee (Step 2).
If you receive funding for your research project, or if you already have funding and would like to access the Army of Women as a new or an additional source of recruitment for your research project, you will fill out the Funded Research Application.
The application requires you to upload a copy of your complete funded grant application, study protocol, and IRB approval. Your funded research application will be reviewed by the Love/Avon Army of Women Scientific Advisory Committee to determine if it’s reasonable and feasible in the framework of the Army of Women.
The initial review process will be determined by the project’s peer-review and funding status. We will assign Scientific Advisory Committee members to specific research projects based on each member’s expertise. Reviewers will independently review each proposal. A project must be approved by the majority of the reviewers to be accepted for the Army of Women. The Army of Women staff will notify the investigator submitting the project of the Scientific Advisory Committee’s decision. Once a protocol is accepted and the investigator is notified, we will assign the appropriate Army of Women Center(s) for biological sample collection. We will then send an e-blast to notify all Army of Women volunteers about your research projects. If you are able to collect your own biological samples, you will be the sole center for your study.
If you are collecting your own biological samples, we will forward to you a list of volunteers interested in taking part in your research project. These women will have been told that you will be contacting them for final screening and to coordinate collection of the biological samples.
If you would like for us to collect the biological samples for you, we will coordinate the collection process with the designated centers.
